NCAA D-III POLE VAULT RESULTS

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Junior Erin Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind.) earned the highest finish in Hanover women's track & field program history – for a field event – at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships Thursday afternoon.

Trimpe, who was entering her first national championship meet in her collegiate career, posted a height of 3.65m in the pole vault to place 10th overall. The junior tied for the eighth best clearance in the field of 21 athletes, but due to tiebreakers at previous heights, was moved to 10th overall. Her final placement was 11 spots higher than her seeded ranking heading into Thursday's event.

The day started with Trimpe missing on her first two jumps at 3.50m. She responded however with a successful attempt in her final try at the opening height to continue on. The junior then followed it up with a clearance on her first attempt at 3.65m. Although she had three solid efforts at the next progression, 3.75m, which would have set a new school record, Trimpe fell short on each occasion.

With her 10th place finish, Trimpe becomes the first Hanover women's athlete in program history to record a top-10 finish in a field event at the outdoor national championships. She also became the fourth women's athlete in school history to compete at the outdoor meet, which includes three program appearances in the past five years.

"I told Erin we came here to celebrate her and the great year she put together, and the only competition was with herself shooting for a personal best," said Trimpe's pole vault coach, Tim Palmer. "Opening height was about a foot higher than she normally starts and she got two quick misses as we tried to match the pole choice with the wind and her confidence.

"She cleared that height on her final attempt and then I could see on her face that is was 'game on' from there. There were 479 NCAA Division III women's athletes that jumped this outdoor season and Erin finished No. 10."

Trimpe qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships after posting a height of 3.72m, back on April 20, at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. The junior finished with an average of 3.49m in seven outings this spring, while also earning four first place finishes.
