HANOVER, Ind. – With 1,168 total votes accounted for, Hanover softball freshman Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) has been named our Female Athlete of the Month for April.
Beurman paced the Panther pitching staff during the month of April, posting a team-best earned run average of 2.82. She also went 5-4 and struck out 45 in 57.0 innings of work.
The freshman allowed one or fewer runs in four starts during the final month of the season, which included complete-game shutouts against Manchester (April 21), Wilmington (April 26) and Anderson (April 29). Beurman also picked up wins at Rose-Hulman (April 11) and Bluffton (April 22).
Her effort against Rose-Hulman also saw her strike out a season-high eight batters. The first-year pitcher struck out at least five opponents in six games during the month-long stretch.
For the season, Beurman finished 8-9 with a 3.24 ERA. In 18 starts, she posted 11 complete games, while striking out 79 over 110.1 innings in the circle.
Beurman is the first softball player to receive the monthly award, which is voted on by family and friends of Hanover College Athletics on Twitter. The freshman accumulated 40 percent of the votes in the finals poll after also garnering a poll-best 40 percent in the semifinal round. There were 564 votes in the finals poll after the two semifinal rounds tallied up to a combined 604 ballots.
