HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover sports information department has announced senior men’s basketball player, Wes McKinney (Batesville, Ind.), as its Male Athlete of the Month for December.

McKinney, who paced the Panthers with 15.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, helped guide the team to a 4-2 record during the month of December, including a 3-1 mark to open HCAC play.

The senior led the squad in field goal (27), 3-point (10) and free throw makes (27). Overall, McKinney shot 44.3 percent from the field and close to 80 percent from the charity stripe.

He scored in double figures in five-of-six games including a 22-point effort at Franklin on December 2. The Batesville native sparked a second half comeback which led to a 75-68 victory over the Grizzlies.

McKinney later averaged 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest in the Wittenberg Kiwanis Holiday Classic, en route to all-tournament honors. Highlighting tournament play, the senior posted his first double-double of the season, tallying 15 points and career high 14 rebounds against nationally ranked Marietta (Ohio).

With the Hanover basketball teams the only ones in action during December, there was no interactive voting poll available on social media. Fan voting will begin again with the January nominees.
