Cam Fails, Men's Basketball

HANOVER, Ind. – Junior Cam Fails (Mason, Ohio), of the Hanover men’s basketball team, has been tabbed by fan voting on an interactive social media poll as the Hanover Male Athlete of the Month for January.

Fails recorded the highest total percentage of any male or female winner to date, 47 percent, scoring over 140 of the 303 total votes. The men’s basketball program has now won each of the last three Male Athlete of the Month awards.

The junior led the team in scoring at 22.0 points per game, as the Panthers finished 7-2 overall en route to being named HeroSports NCAA Division III National Team of the Month for January. Hanover’s strong month was highlighted by seven straight wins from Jan. 6 to Jan. 27.

Fails tallied 20 or more points in six games, including the final four outings, inching him just two points shy of 1,000 for his career. The junior later surpassed the scoring milestone with a 20-point effort at Earlham on Feb. 7.

The final two games of January saw a a pair of clutch performances from Fails, who went the length of the floor to score the game-winning layup as time expired in a 71-70 road win at Bluffton (Jan. 27). He followed up his then career high 29-point effort with a three-pointer the final five seconds of a road contest at Rose-Hulman (Jan. 31), tying the game at 59-all and sending it to overtime. He finished with 25 points against the Fightin’ Engineers.

Finished the month with a .555 field goal percentage, including a .512 shooting clip from behind the arc. Fails added 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.1 assists per game as well.
