HANOVER, Ind. – Sophomore Maleha Motter (Danville, Ind.) of the Hanover women’s basketball team has been voted on by the fans as Hanover’s November Female Athlete of the Month.
Motter played a vital role in the Panther women’s basketball team’s hot start, averaging 11.2 points and 9.0 rebounds over the first five games of the season. Hanover finished November with a 3-2 record, marking the team’s best five game start in three years.
Over the opening month of the season, Motter was one of just two players in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to average at least 10.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average was also good enough for second in the conference.
The sophomore also proved to be one of HC’s top defenders early on, averaging a conference-best 2.6 steals per game. Her swiping efforts were highlighted by a career high seven steals in the 86-62 win over Alma (Mich.).
Motter scored in double figures in each of the first four games of the year, including a season high 17 points in the 83-39 victory over Spalding to open the 2017-18 campaign. She later added her first double-double of the season against Centre, tallying 10 points and a then career high 15 rebounds.
Currently, Motter is now the only HCAC player averaging a double-double, with 11.1 points per game and a conference high 10.3 rebounds per contest. Her 2.8 steals per game are also good enough for third best in the HCAC.
Motter recorded 38 percent of the total votes, which is the highest mark of any female athlete over the first three months of the interactive poll. Overall, 326 votes were tallied on the women’s side.
