HANOVER, Ind. – Junior Claire Dennis (Bloomington, Ind.) of the Hanover volleyball team has been voted on by the fans as our October Female Athlete of the Month.
Dennis helped guide the Panthers to an unblemished 11-0 record during the month of October, as the team wrapped up HCAC regular season play, going a perfect 9-0 for the third consecutive season. Hanover later added its second HCAC Tournament championship in program history, earning them an appearance in the NCAA National Tournament.
The junior was one of three Hanover volleyball players to receive HCAC Player of the Week honors, as Dennis did so in a five-match week from Oct. 16-21. During the week-long stretch, she recorded 21 total blocks (1.75 per set), 28 digs (2.33 per set) and 21 kills (1.75 per set) to help lead the team to a5-0 record, including four wins in three sets.
Dennis finished the month with 1.58 blocks per set, which vaulted her to the top of the HCAC statistical leaderboards, where she finished the month at 1.38. She also added 81 digs in th 11 matches.
Offensively, Dennis posted 3.2 points per set, while totaling 63 kills. She added a hitting percentage of 0.382 as well. The junior posted two double-digit kill efforts, while also registering five or more total blocks on seven occasions.
Dennis received 119 of the 350 votes during the week-long poll on Hanover Athletics’ twitter page, @HanoverPanthers. Overall, she accumulated 34 percent of the votes, the highest mark of any female athlete over the first two months of the interactive poll.
