GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has named Hanover junior pitcher Garett Zorb (Medina, Ohio) its Pitcher of the Week for games played between Monday, March 26 and Sunday, April 1.
Zorb threw a career-best seven innings in the Panthers 7-1 win over Manchester in the conference-opening game for both schools Saturday afternoon. Over those seven innings, the right-hander allowed only a first-inning unearned run en-route to his third win of the season. The Spartans managed only four hits to go along with four walks and six strikeouts, and had only one runner reach third base after the opening inning.
Having won three games in his first two years combined, Zorb has already set a season-high in wins (3-1) and matched his single-game high in strikeouts with six.
Through five starts in 2018, he is second on the team in innings pitched (29.1) and strikeouts (18) and now has an earned run average of 2.45, which currently puts him seventh in the HCAC.
Zorb is the first Hanover player to be honored by the league this spring. Senior Jack Shine (New Albany, Ind.) and 2017 graduate Cody Reister were named HCAC Hitter and Pitcher of the week following week one last year, and junior Ty Stover (Galveston, Ind.) was named the conference's top hitter for week six.
The Panthers are scheduled to play a pair of HCAC doubleheaders this week. Hanover will first travel to Franklin Tuesday, April 3 and then play at Earlham Saturday, April 7. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. both days.
