GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the first time in his young career, freshman Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) of the Hanover football team has been named HCAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Coane, who accumulated 245 yards of total offense in Saturday's 31-28 win over Bluffton (Ohio), is the first HC player to win the conference's offensive award this season.
The freshman running back was featured all over the field Saturday, as he posted 128 rushing and 117 receiving yards. He led the HCAC in rushing yards this week, while also being one of just three conference players to recorded over 100 yards receiving.
Coane became the first Panther to log over 100 yards on the ground this season, while also registering the first 100-yard rushing performance for HC in nine games.
The Evansville, Ind. native found the end zone twice during the victory over Bluffton, once through the air and again on the ground. With the two scores, Coane has now posted at least one touchdown in four straight games. During the four-game span, he has a total of six scores.
Coane currently leads the Panthers in rushing yards, totaling 189 yards on 36 carries, in four games played. The freshman is also leading the team in all-purpose yards at 110.5 per game.
Hanover will look for its second straight victory of 2017 when they travel to face Earlham at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21.
