INDIANAPOLIS – Senior Brody Dell (Tipton, Ind.) of the Hanover College football team was announced Monday afternoon as the defensive player of the week for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Dell, who is picking up his second award of the season, was key in Hanover's 29-14 victory over Rose-Hulman last Saturday. The senior's second honor gives the Panthers five weekly conference awards this fall.
In his final home collegiate game, Dell posted a team-high 13 tackles in the win over the Fightin' Engineers. Both of his conference awards have come after double-digit tackle performances.
To go along with his 13 stops, the senior added two interceptions, one forced fumble and an additional pass breakup in coverage. As a team, HC allowed 14 or fewer points for the sixth time in seven conference outings. The Panthers also conceded 239 yards of total offense to Rose-Hulman, including just 61 yards in the second half.
For the season, Dell is averaging 6.7 tackles per game, which ranks third on the team. The senior is among the top 10 in the conference in season interceptions, three, and has three pass breakups as well. The safety has also played a vital role in providing run support, as HC has the top rushing defense in the conference, allowing just over 100 yards per game.
The Panthers are 6-3 overall and 6-1 in HCAC play heading into the final week of the regular season. Hanover enters the 88th annual Victory Bell Classic at Franklin with an opportunity to earn a share of its first HCAC championship since the 2003 season.
Kickoff for the annual Bell Game is set for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10.
