Hanover to Celebrate Homecoming with Anderson

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College football team celebrates Homecoming, welcoming the Anderson University Ravens to Alumni Stadium for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

CIRQUE DE HANOVER: Hanover College is excited and ready to welcome Alumni for a weekend of tailgating, football and festivities. We would like to extend a special welcome to the classes of 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2009, 2014 all celebrating class reunions with us today. 

WEEKEND RECAP: The Hanover Panthers opened HCAC action with a huge win over the Bluffton Beaver, 28-10. Hanover finished the contest with 308 yards passing, while grinding out 210 yards on the gridiron. Leading the charge for the Panthers was junior Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) with his second 100-yard rushing game of the season, tallying 114-yards. Under center, junior Noah Wezensky (Fort Wayne, Ind.) threw for his second 300-yard game of the year, registering 308 total yards through the air. 

LAST MEETING:  In last year's meeting between the Panthers and the Ravens, the Blue and Red soared past Anderson 55-8. Leading the way was quarterback, Noah Wezensky with 229-yards of offense and five touchdowns. Coane also had an impressive day as he rushed for 144-yards on 24 attempts with two touchdowns. The Panther defense held the Ravens to just 190-yards of total offense. Senior Matt Rier (Wellington, Fla.) tallied five tackles with one for a loss, while junior Zikk Omoruyi (Palm Beach, Fla.) registered two and a half sacks. 

DOMINATING DEFENSE: The Blue and Red defense continues to torment opposing teams as they have forced six turnovers with four interceptions. Leading the charge is sophomore Kiefer Askew (Warner Robins, Ga.) with a team-high three interceptions and six pass breakups. Senior, linebacker, Carson Plessinger (Alexandria, Ky.) and defensive lineman, Matt Rier continue to be a nightmare in the backfield as the duo has combined for seven sacks, ranking them among the best in the HCAC. The duo have also teamed up for 10 tackles for a loss, combining for more than 40 total yards. 

IN THE BACKFIELD: Coane and junior Walt Ballinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) have tag teamed the backfield to provide what appears to be an unstoppable duo. Coane has tallied 88 carries for 497-yards, averaging 124.3 yards per game with five rushing touchdowns. Ballinger has made quick work of his time with the pig skin rushing for 230-yards on just 22 carries. He has found the endzone four times, averaging a team-best 10.5 yards per carry.

UNDER CENTER: Wezensky continues to dominate the air ways for the Panthers with 991-yards and four touchdowns. The junior currently ranks among the league's best in yards per game (247.8), touchdowns (4), and completions (87). On the receiving end of the aerial strike, senior Conner Gibson (Lexington, Ky.) appears to be the top target with 314-yards on 24 receptions. The senior enters the contest ranked third in the HCAC in yards per game (78.5). Also making an impact for the Blue and Red are wide receivers, senior Taylor Bleistein (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and senior Jackson Daugherty (Greenwood, Ind.). The duo has combined for 411 total yards on 30 receptions.

SCOUTING THE RAVENS: The Anderson University Ravens enter the contest 3-1 overall after defeating Defiance 56-29. In the contest with the Yellow Jackets, the Ravens were led by quarterback Tyson Harley with 409-yards of offense and five touchdowns. Reggie Lipscomb also found success on the ground, rushing for 151-yards and a touchdown. On the season, Harley has thrown for 1,296-yards with 104 completions and 11 touchdowns. Zac Tallent leads the wide receiver efforts for Anderson with 417-yards and four touchdowns. Lipscomb has turned in 356-yards on the ground for the Ravens with three touchdowns.
