Panthers Dominate Anderson as Part of Homecoming Festivities

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College football team dominated homecoming as they ran past the Anderson University Ravens 70-0 on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Panthers (4-1 overall, 2-0 HCAC) finished with 581 total yards of offense, including 10 touchdowns. Leading the way for the Blue and Red was junior, quartback, Noah Wezensky (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and junior running back Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.). The duo combined for eight touchdowns, with Wezensky tallying 359-yards through the air.

The Panthers scored early and often in the contest as the Blue and Red found the game's first score with 5:58 remaining in the first quarter. Hanover took the ball 80-yards on three plays led by a Coane three-yard touchdown run, 7-0.

After stalling a Raven 29-yard drive the offense went to work once more finding the end zone with 2:03 to play in the opening period. The drive opened with a Wezensky pass to senior Conner Gibson (Lexington, Ky.) for 16-yards putting the Panthers at their own 39-yard line. The team would break into Raven territory on the following play as Coane caught a pass for 13-yards to the Anderson 48-yard line. Coane would get the score later in the drive as he caught another pass from Wezensky that he took to the house for the 14-0 lead.

The defense stepped up big late in the quarter as freshman Devonte Hardiman (Princeton, Ind.) forced a fumble that was recovered by sophomore BJ Williams (Rome, Ga.) giving Hanover excellent field position for their third score of the game, 21-0.

The Panthers carried the momentum into the second quarter as they used a three play 81-yard drive to push the lead 28-0. The drive opened with a 30-yard completion to Gibson before Coane struck again with a 21-yard endzone scamper, 28-0.

Anderson looked to respond late in the second quarter before a senior Adam Grabert (Mount Vernon, Ind.) pass breakup on fourth and eight forced another turnover on downs. Hanover continued on cruise control from this point entering the half with the 42-0 advantage.

The team would tack on four more scores in the second half en route to the Panthers largest win of the season, 70-0.

The Blue and Red return to action on Saturday, October 12 as they travel to Defiance. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
