INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Hanover men's basketball team debuted its 2017-18 roster during an exhibition against NCAA Division I opponent, Butler, Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers were making their first appearance at Hinkle Fieldhouse since the 2012-13 season, as a slow start denied any hope the Blue and Red would have of an upset Saturday.
After conceding the first six points of the contest, Hanover rallied to tie the ball game at 8-8, five minutes in. Hanover struggled to find open opportunities for the remainder of the first half, as the Bulldogs, who appeared in the NCAA Division I Sweet 16 last season, enjoyed a 44-19 advantage at the intermission.
The Panthers clamped down defensivly in the second stanza, holding Butler to just 24 second half points. The Bulldogs would lead by double figures throughout the second half however, winning the exhibition, 68-36.
Junior Nick White (New Albany, Ind.) led the Panthers with eight points, making four of his five attempts from the field. White also tied for the team high in rebounds with four. Seniors Wes McKinney (Batesville, Ind.) and Colin Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) each added four rebounds, with both pitching in with first half three-pointers as well.
Senior Levi Buck (Pendelton, Ind.) added five points, as 11 different Panthers scored in the contest.
Hanover, who has been ranked No. 7 in the national preseason poll by Street & Smith's magazine, will open regular season play in the Thomas More Classic Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18. The Panthers square off with Kent State-Tuscarawas (Ohio) in the season opener at 5:30 p.m., Friday.
