HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's basketball team earned its eighth consecutive top 25 ranking in the D3hoops.com national poll Monday evening, coming in at No. 16.
The Panthers are earning their 72nd national ranking from D3hoops since the poll's inception during the 1999-00 season, and have now been a top 25 member since the Week 11 edition of the 2016-17 campaign. The Blue and Red, who have been as high as No. 4 this season, appeared in the rankings each of the poll's first seven years before returning in 2010-11 and each of the last two seasons.
Hanover is 6-2 on the year and is 2-1 in HCAC play. The Panthers dropped their first conference contest of the 2017-18 campaign at Transylvania last Wednesday, but rebounded with a 59-54 victory over Bluffton this past Saturday.
Two of Hanover's non-conference opponents this year are also in the rankings, with Ohio Wesleyan and Marietta (Ohio) coming in at Nos. 17 and 20 respectively. The Panthers defeated OWU at home back on Nov. 29, by a final score of 84-83, and will face Marietta during the Wittenberg (Ohio) Kiwanis Holiday Classic Dec. 29. The Blue and Red have won two straight games against nationally ranked teams in the D3hoops poll.
Hanover will continue HCAC play this weekend with a trip to Defiance. The Panthers and Yellow Jackets are slated for a 3 p.m. tip Saturday, Dec. 16.
