HANOVER, Ind. – For the second consecutive week, the Hanover men's basketball team is ranked 16th in the National Top 25 poll, which was announced Monday evening.

Since the poll's inception during the 1999-00 season, the Panthers have now been ranked nationally by D3hoops 73 times, which is the most of any institution in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Blue and Red have also appeared in nine straight editions of the poll, which is the ninth longest streak in the country.

Hanover is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in HCAC play after defeating Defiance on the road last Saturday, 74-51. Defense has guided the Panthers lately, as HC has held back-to-back opponents to under 60 points for the first time since January 2016.

Two of Hanover's non-conference opponents this year are also in the rankings, with Ohio Wesleyan and Marietta (Ohio) coming in at Nos. 14 and 19 respectively. The Panthers defeated OWU back on Nov. 29 by a final count of 84-83, which marked the second straight win over a nationally ranked opponent.

Hanover and Marietta will square off in each side's next contest, as the Panthers and Pioneers open the Wittenberg (Ohio) Kiwanis Holiday Classic at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29. The Blue and Red will then close out tournament play against Ohio-Chillicothe the following afternoon.

The Week Four edition of the D3hoops Top 25 is the final poll of 2017, with the next national rankings coming out on Jan. 2, 2018. For complete coverage of this week's poll, visit the link above.
