GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second time in four weeks, junior Cam Fails (Mason, Ohio) of the Hanover men's basketball team has been named HCAC Player of the Week.
An eventful week for Fails was highlighted by a pair of wins for Hanover, who now sits at 18-5 overall and 13-3 in HCAC play, as they enter the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for first in the league standings. The Blue and Red defeated Earlham on the road Wednesday, 77-54, before capping the week with an 86-74 home victory over Manchester on Saturday.
Needing just two points to join the 1,000-point club, Fails tallied 20 points in the win at Earlham, becoming the 37th player in program history to reach the scoring milestone. His encore performance Saturday saw him record a career high 32 points off the bench, highlighted by a perfect 12-for-12 effort at the charity stripe.
For the week, the junior shot 50 percent from the field (16-32), while averaging 26.0 points and 2.5 assists per game. He also made 16-of-17 free throw attempts, a .941 shooting clip.
Fails, who now has three HCAC Player of the Week awards in his career, is currently leading the team in scoring at 17.2 points per game, which is also good enough for fourth in the HCAC. He's shooting a career high 50.6 percent from the field as well. Complimenting his scoring efforts this season, Fails is averaging 2.3 assists and nearly two steals per game.
Hanover will stay in the friendly confines of Collier Arena for their final two regular season games and will welcome Mt. St. Joseph for a 7:30 p.m. tip, Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Panthers and Lions are two of the three teams currently tied atop the HCAC standings.
