HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers remained perfect at home as four players finish in double figures to lead Hanover to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday evening inside Collier Arena, 90-80.
Junior Mark Albers (Pendleton, Ind.) led the charge for the Panthers (11-3 overall,m 5-2 HCAC) with a season-high 23 points. Joining him in double figures were teammates junior Isaac Hibbard (New Albany, Ind.) with 19 points, junior Connor Washburn (Fishers, Ind.) with 16 points and freshman Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) with 12 points.
After surrendering the opening bucket to the opposition, the Panthers went on a 9-0 run paced by Albers and senior Kevin Williams (Edinburgh, Ind.). The hot hand of Albers continued as he found Washburn streaking the lane to give Hanover the 13-10 advantage.
With just over 12 minutes remaining in the opening half, the Blue and Red staged another run led by Washburn with momentum shifting scores in the paint that saw the Panthers push the difference to 25-17. With no answer, the junior continued to dominate in the paint getting an assist from Hibbard for the 32-23 lead. Albers deemed clutch down the stretch finishing the first half with a team-high 14 points to guide Hanover to the 43-37 intermission advantage. Washburn chipped in 13 first half points including 2-for-4 from the free-throw line.
The Panthers return to Collier Arena on Saturday, January 18 when they take on the Quakers of Earlham College. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
