HANOVER, Ind. – The Blue and Red enter the final stretch of the regular season at 15-6 overall and 9-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. With just four games remaining, the Panthers currently rank third among the HCAC trailing Franklin and Transylvania with a 10-4 conference mark.
This week will feature a visit from Anderson University on Wednesday, February 12 before hitting the road for a men's and women's doubleheader at Bluffton on Saturday, February 15.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Panthers are 7-1 overall within the confines of Collier Arena as the team's only set back came on January 18 against Earlham. The Panthers, on average, dominate the paint at home netting roughly 43.5 points per contest to a road mark of 33.1 points. Their 59.1 points per game allowed is also a team-best along with their 8.9 fast break points per matchup.
STIFLING DEFENSE: Hanover continues to climb the national scene as they rank among the top five in several defensive categories. The Blue and Red rank third in personal fouls per game (12.7), and fourth in both scoring defense (60.2 points per game) and fewest fouls (254.0 on the year). Leading the team's defensive efforts is the duo of senior Logan Ratts (Martinsville, Ind.) and junior Isaac Hibbard (New Albany, Ind.). Ratts and Hibbard have combined for 63 of the teams 142 steals. The senior leads the team and ranks fourth in the HCAC averaging 1.6 per contest while Hibbard ranks second among HC and sixth overall at 1.4 steals per game.
WILLIAMS IN THE PAINT: Senior Kevin Williams dominated the post notching a career-high performance a week ago. The senior netted a career-best 30 points against Earlham after shooting 14-of-16 from the floor with two assists. His double-digit performance is the 11th of the season and broke his previous career-high of 22 points set earlier this year. He finished the week averaging 24.5 points per game, shooting 72.4 percent from the floor.
SCOUTING ANDERSON: The Ravens sit at 10-11 overall with a 7-7 HCAC record. In the last meeting between the two teams, Hanover topped the Ravens 66-53 inside O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The Ravens' last victory inside Collier Arena dates back to the 2015-16 season when they knocked off the Panthers 106-100. However, the teams last 2019-20 season road test saw the Orange and Black take down the Yellow Jackets of Defiance, 91-85.
Anderson will look to avenge their loss against Bluffton last Saturday, entering the contest averaging 73.9 points per game led by Maurice Knight. Knight has netted a team-high 19.3 ppg with a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING BLUFFTON: The Beavers are 12-9 overall with an 8-6 mark in HCAC play holding a four-game win streak. They open the week with a trip to Manchester on Wednesday, February 12 before welcoming the Panthers on Saturday, February 15. The last meeting between the Beavers and the Panthers saw Bluffton fall 63-44.
As a unit, BU is averaging 65.9 points per game led by Andrew Renner averaging a team-high 16.9 ppg. Jameel Cosby ranks second among the Beaver offense at 12.4 ppg, while Dezman Brown ranks third at 11.4 ppg.
