Ratts Records Double-Double to Lead Men's Basketball in Triumph Over Anderson

HANOVER, Ind. – Senior Logan Ratts (Martinsville, Ind.) recorded a double-double to pace the Panthers as they defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe, Anderson, on Wednesday evening inside Collier Arena, 73-46. With the victory, Hanover improves to 16-6 overall on the season and 10-5 in HCAC action.

The Blue and Red saw three players finish in double figures as Ratts garnered his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds, 12 of which came on the defensive side of the floor. Senior Kevin Williams (Edinburgh, Ind.) tallied his third straight double-digit scoring night tying a game-high 14 points while teammate sophomore Matt Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) also collected a game-high of 14 points.

After a slow start, the Panthers offense found its groove as Weimer sparked a 9-0 run that propelled HC in front 15-5 with 8:48 to play in the opening half. The Blue and Red remained on the attack as Kevin Williams dominated the post pushing the advantage to 20-8 following an old-fashion three-point play.

The Hanover defense showed why they rank among the best in the Conference as they held the Ravens to just 19 first-half points and 6-of-26 (.231) shooting from the floor en route to the convincing 34-19 halftime lead. Heading into the break, Williams led the field with seven first-half points, including a perfect mark from the charity stripe.

The second half saw the Panther offense flourish, while Anderson was held to just five points through the first ten minutes of play. During the span, Kevin Williams appeared to be the difference-maker as he made a home in the paint connecting on a pair of layups before a senior Blake Robertson (Greenfield, Ind.) three-pointer capped off a 15-point Panther scoring run, 52-24.

Anderson attempted a comeback late stringing together a pair of deep balls with just under seven minutes to play but the Panther lead was just too much as Ratts collected a steal in the open court for a fast-break layup that secured the double-double and the win.

Hanover registered a game-high 42 rebounds, 37 of which came on the defensive side of the floor while also forcing a game-best 11 turnovers.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, February 15 as they travel to northwest Ohio to take on Bluffton. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
