HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's golf team will trek to South Carolina to open up its spring season this Monday and Tuesday, March 12 and 13, competing in the TaylorMade Intercollegiate.
THE FIELD: No. 15 Greensboro (N.C.), Hanover (Ind.), Hardin-Simmons (Texas), RV Kenyon (Ohio), Lynchburg (Va.), RV McDaniel (Md.), Millikin (Ill.), Mt. St. Joseph (Ohio), Ohio Dominican, RV Ohio Wesleyan, Randolph-Macon (Va.), Shenandoah (Va.), Virginia Wesleyan, RV Webster (Mo.)
LINE UP: Senior Tony Rogers (Indianapolis, Ind.), freshman Garrett Valentine (Elizabethtown, Ky.), junior Travis Butte (Milan, Ind.), sophomore Bradley Murray (Carmel, Ind.), sophomore Austin Zapp (Union, Ky.)
SECOND TRIP TO THE CAROLINAS: Hanover will be making its second trip to east coast during the 2017-18 season as the team's last official competition came at the Guilford (N.C.)-hosted O'Briant-Jensen Memorial. The Panthers had four players compete as individuals, but this will be the first trip to the Carolinas this season for the five athletes competing.
TRIO AVERAGING 77: Valentine, Rogers and Zapp are all averaging rounds between 77 and 78 strokes, with Valentine leading the group at 77.00. The freshman and Zapp each have a top 10 this season, both coming at the Wabash Fall Classic in late September.
FIRST PLACE FOLLOW UP: The last time Hanover competed in team scoring was the Wabash Invitational, as they posted a two-round total of 622, which was good enough for a nine-stroke victory over second place Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.). Rogers tied for 11th to go along with Valentine and Zapp's top 10 finishes.
UP NEXT: The Panthers will return to the Midwest to compete in the Mt. St. Joseph Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25. Hanove tied for third out of 14 teams at last year's event.
