GREENWOOD, Ind. – With three weeks still left in the regular season, Hanover men's soccer freshman Will Bedel (Walton, Ky.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for matches played Monday, Oct. 2 – Sunday, Oct. 8.
Bedel, who won his first honor following week three, played in two matches last week and allowed only one goal in almost 165 minutes of action to help the Panthers win a pair of HCAC contests.
In Hanover's 5-0 win over Franklin Wednesday, Bedel played almost 75 minutes in a 5-0 shutout of the Grizzlies. Three days later he won his eighth match of the season with a two saves in a 5-1 win against Anderson.
Through 11 contests, Bedel has recorded a 0.71 goals against average, and an .800 save percentage with 28 saves. He has also played in all five of the team's shutouts, with three complete-game efforts.
Bedel is the first Hanover player to be recognized twice by the HCAC in the same year since the 2015 season when Enrico Franchini was named the HCAC Player of the Week following weeks three and seven.
The Panthers, now 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the HCAC, will next host Transylvania (Ky.) Wednesday, Oct. 11. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Hanover, Ind.
