LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – Second half woes sink Panthers as they fall to Centre 3-2 in the opening round of the Spalding Tournament.
Hanover (0-1 overall) was led on the day by junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) and sophomore Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) with one goal apiece. The Blue and Red fired off 12 shots, eight of which were on frame.
The Panthers struck first in the contest as sophomore Evan Redmon (Louisville, Ky.) found Eppler off a deflected ball by the Centre keeper that gave HC the early 1-0 advantage.
Hanover carried the lead into half time and would tack on an additional goal early in the second half as Hughes split the defense to push the Panther advantage to 2-0.
However, Centre responded moments later as they sent a through ball into the box that beat the Blue and Red goal keeper, 2-1.
The White and Gold continued to pressure the Hanover defense as they were able to score the equalizer in the 72 minute on an open net, 2-2.
Centre would score the final goal of the contest in the 82nd minute as the Colonels netted the ball in the lower left for the victory.
Hanover would look for an equalizer moments later when sophomore Leonardo Bottura (Taubate, Sao Paulo, Brazil) put a shot on goal that was saved by the Centre keeper.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, August 31 as they take on Brescia. Kick off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
