Eppler Nets Two Goals to Propel Men's Soccer Past Otterbein

HANOVER, Ind. - Sophomore Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) netted the game winner to lead men's soccer past Otterbein on Saturday afternoon in their home opener, 3-1.

The Panthers (3-1-0 overall) saw Eppler and senior Brady Gesenhues (Fort Thomas, Ky.) score goals, while junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) registered a game-high two assists. As a team, the Panthers tallied six shots, three of which were on frame.

The Blue and Red surged ahead early in the contest as Hughes played a cross into the top of the box that Eppler placed on frame for the 1-0 advantage.

Eppler made his presence know again in the second half as he and Hughes connected for what seemed like de ja vu' and another Panther score, 2-0.

However, Otterbein went on the attack responding quickly with a goal in the 66th minute that cut the deficit to 2-1.

Gesenhues provided the games final dagger in the 71st minute after an assist by freshman Joseph Kerney (Newburgh, Ind.) placed him right where he needed to be for the deflected goal, 3-1.

Junior Aaron Stocksdale (Louisville, Ky.) picked up his second win in frame as he registered 90 minutes with four saves.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 13 as they welcome Thomas More to campus. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
