Balanced Attack Lifts Panthers Past Anderson

HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers used a balanced attack to defeat Anderson in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on a rainy Saturday afternoon on the campus of Hanover College, 2-0. With the win, the Blue and Red improve their win streak to six games.

The Panthers (9-5-1 overall, 6-1-0 HCAC) finished with a game-high 25 shots, 17 of which were on frame. Junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) led the way with six shots, a goal and an assist.

After pressuring the Ravens defense for several minutes, Hughes was able to break the scoreless tie in the 19th minute as he fired a shot from the top of the box that put HC on top, 1-0.

Hughes looked to deliver another blow late in the half as he took back-to-back shots that were saved by the Anderson goalkeeper. The Panthers got one more chance before the break as sophomore Carlos Schryver (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fired off a shot in the 37th minute that fell to the hands of the Raven keeper.

However, the Blue and Red delivered the game's final dagger in the 58th minute as junior Will Bedel (Walton, Ky.) played a ball to Hughes who connected with sophomore Fernando Martin (Sao Jose De Rio Preto ,Brazil) for the insurance goal, 2-0.

Bedel got the win in frame, playing 87 minutes with one save. With the victory, he improves to 3-0 overall on the season.

Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, October 30 as they travel to Mt. St. Joseph. Kickoff with the Lions is set for 7:00 PM.
