HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's soccer team is set to host Rose-Hulman in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Final at 1 PM, Saturday, Nov. 9.
SEMIFINAL RECAP: The Red and Blue shot their way into Championship Saturday as they defeated Manchester on Wednesday, 2-0. The Panthers charged the Spartans from the opening kickoff as the game's first dagger came in the final seconds of the first half off a senior Brady Gesenhues (Fort Thomas, Ky.) kick. Hanover delivered an insurance goal in the 81st minute as junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) fired off a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
The other semifinal match featured Transylvania and Rose-Hulman. The contest ended in a 2-1 decision and saw the Fightin' Engineers net the game-winning goal in the 66th minute.
THE STRONG DEFENSE: The Hanover defense stepped up big in the team's semifinal matchup with Manchester as they allowed just one first half shot. Leading the charge was juniors Myles Joseph (Lafayette, La.) and Ethan Miller (Breaux Bridge, La.) stifling the Spartans for the first 23 minutes of action. In frame, junior Will Bedel (Walton, Ky.) remains perfect with a 7-0 overall record and three shutouts.
REPEAT APPERANCE: The Blue and Red are very familiar with hosting the Tournament Final as they welcomed Transylvania to the Soccer Complex a season ago. The Panthers and Pioneers played to a double overtime tie before falling in a shootout that saw Transylvania win 3-1.
SELECTION SHOW MONDAY: The winner of the HCAC Champion ship Saturday afternoon will be the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The selection show will take place on NCAA.com at 1:30 PM, Monday, Nov. 11.
