HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College men's soccer team announced the 2020 schedule Monday morning, May 4, with the season highlighted by eight home contests. The campaign will also feature eight non-conference matchups consisting of two 2019 NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifiers.
The Panthers concluded the 2019 season winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season crown for the second consecutive season. Under the guidance of head coach Matt Wilkerson, Hanover went on to capture the NCAA Division III Tournament automatic qualifier after a last second goal forced penalty kicks in the HCAC Tournament Finals.
Hanover will look to carry the momentum into the 2020 campaign as they open the season in Tennessee with non-conference foe Maryville on Sept. 1. They then head to Spalding on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 for the Golden Eagle Classic.
The Panthers home opener is slated for Sept. 9 with the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern. The 2019 season saw these two teams clash with the Polar Bears claiming the 2-0 victory. Ohio Northern went on to compete as part of the NCAA Division III Tournament after receiving an at large bid.
Other non-conference contests include Kenyon on Sept. 12, Wabash on Sept. 19 and Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 23. The Battling Bishops and Panthers face-off for the third consecutive season with Ohio Wesleyan claiming the slim 2-1 decision a season ago. However, Hanover finished the contest with a game-high 17 shots, eight of which landed on frame.
Non-Conference action will wrap up on Sept. 26 with a trip to Otterbein before returning home for a pair of HCAC contest with Earlham on Sept. 30 and Bluffton on Oct. 3. The Panthers head to Lexington, Ky. on Oct. 7 to take on Transylvania before heading north to Manchester on Oct. 10. Last season saw the Spartans hand the Panthers their only conference loss in a tough 1-0 decision despite a game-high nine shots by the Blue and Red.
The remaining regular season schedule will feature a visit from area rival Franklin on Oct. 14 and Defiance on Oct. 17. The final three games consist of a trip to the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman on Oct. 21 and the Ravens of Anderson on Oct. 25 before welcoming Mt. St. Joseph to the Soccer Complex on Oct. 28.
