Hanover men to compete in nine-team invitational at Transylvania

HANOVER, Ind – The Hanover men's swim team will travel down to Lexington, Ky. where they will compete in a nine team invitational, hosted by Transylvania this weekend.

The Red and Blue will spend two days competing in Lexington, the first day of competition will start at 11:45 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 1 and the meet will wrap up with a 10:30 a.m. start, Sunday, Dec. 2.

INVITATIONAL DETAILS – The invitational will take place at Transylvania where eight other schools will be competing against the Panthers. Of the eight schools competing against Hanover four schools are conference opponents which include, Anderson, Franklin, Rose-Hulman, and the host school, Transylvania. The other institutions competing are, Oberlin (Ohio), Rhodes (Tenn.), Sewanee (Tenn.), and Wittenburg (Ohio).

Hanover has matched up against Anderson, Franklin, and Transylvania earlier in the season and grabbed victories over the Ravens and the Pioneers, and fell short to the Grizzlies.

MAGICAL MALDENEY – Sophomore Alex Maldeney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has come up huge for the Panthers over the course of the season. Maldeney has competed in a total of six solo races and has five top-5 finishes, including three first place finishes. The sophomore recorded his best times in the competition against Anderson where he swam a 22.19 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 49.29 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Maldeney is also making noise in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference as well. His time of 22.19 is the third best time in the 50-yard freestyle and his time of 22.32 is the fifth best time in the conference. The sophomore is the only swimmer to have two times in the top 10 for the HCAC. Maldeney also struck another top-five time in the 100-yard freestyle, with his time of 49.29 landing him at fourth in the HCAC.

WONDROUS WILL – Freshman Will Morgan (Lapel, Ind.) is also stepping up big for Hanover this year. The freshman swimmer has six top 10 finishes this year, which include a first place finish and also two second place finishes. Morgan recorded two of his three personal best times at the Anderson meet with a time of 23.41 in the 50-yard freestyle and 52.26 in the 100-yard freestyle. Morgan just recorded his personal best for the 100-yard breast in the Panthers last meet with a time of 1:08.04.

Morgan's time of 1:08.04 in the 100-yard breast gives him a top-20 time in the conference. The freshman also has two more top 25 times in the 50-yard freestyle (23.41) and 100-yard freestyle (52.26).
