TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Alex Maldeney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) posted a pair of top three individual finishes, including a victory, to highlight men's swimming's performance in a dual meet at Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon.
Maldeney's day was headlined by a first place showing in the 50-yard butterfly, which he finished in 25.11 seconds. The junior also clocked in at 22.28 seconds in the 50 free to place third overall.
Adding a pair of second place finishes was freshman Will Morgan (Lapel, Ind.). Morgan swam the 100 free in 52.86 seconds, while racing the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.20. The freshman also recorded a strong time in the 50 breaststroke, 30.22 seconds.
Additional second place showings came from freshmen Louis Holbrook (Greenfield, Ind.) and James Moll (Tipton, Ind.). Holbrook swam the 50 butterfly in 25.73 for his second place finish and added a personal-best time of 1:54.28 in the 200 free as well. Moll's 100 backstroke mark of 59.55 seconds was good enough for second overall.
The quartet also earned the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay. Holbrook, Maldeney, Moll and Morgan posted a time of 1:32.78 to pick up 11 team points in the event.
Overall, Rose-Hulman, who is 40th nationally in dual meet rankings conducted by CollegeSwimming.com, won the meet by a score of 134-68.
The Panthers will next be in the pool for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships from Thursday, Feb. 14, through Saturday, Feb. 16. The conference meet will be held in Terre Haute, Ind. at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.
