The Panthers Register Record Setting Performance at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover men's swim team competed as part of the two-day Transylvania Invitational hosted at the University of Kentucky Lancaster Aquatic Center.

The Panthers were led by Alex Maldeney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with school records in the 50-yard free, 100-yard free, and 100-yard fly. Freshman Alex Dafforn (Indianapolis, Ind.) also set a school record in the 200-yard IM.

Hanover found success early in the weekend as the 200-yard freestyle relay team claimed a third-place finish in a time of 1:29.34 almost three seconds faster than their seeded time. Sophomore Louis Holbrook (New Palestine, Ind.) served as a key component swimming the event in a season best time.

Dafforn finished sixth overall in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.38, however his prelim time of 2:07.16 claimed the school record in the event. He also competed as part of the 200-yard free finishing eighth with a time of 1:53.43.

Maldeney claimed a third-place finish in the 100-yard free with a school record time of 47.73, after entering the event ranked sixth with a prelim time of 48.68. He also claimed a second-place finish in the 50-yard free but set the school record with his prelim time of 21.59, before posting a 56.72 in the 100-yard fly for another Panther record.

The men's 800-yard free relay finished third overall in the five-team field with a time of 7:31.87, while the 400-yard medley relay team took fourth in a time of 3:46.59.

In the 200-yard back, sophomore James Moll (Tipton, Ind.) captured a seventh-place finish with a time of 2:07.96, improving his prelim time by nearly two seconds. He also claimed a seventh-place mark in the 100-yard back with a time of 57.98, nearly two seconds faster than his prelim performance.

Holbrook also found success in the 100-yard fly finishing eighth overall with a time of 1:02.08.

Sophomore Davis Guthier (Fort Thomas, Ky.) competed in the 1,650-yard free for the Blue and Red finishing sixth with a time of 18:48.56.

Rounding out the weekend for Hanover was the 400-yard free relay with a second-place finish and a mark of 3:49.63.

The Blue and Red return to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 28 as they descend on their annual winter trip to Clermont, Fla.
