Men's tennis drops Winter Break opener to Augustana

­ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hanover men's tennis team opened up its Florida Winter Break Trip Sunday evening, falling to Augustana (Ill.), 7-2.

The Panthers started the match by picking up one of the three doubles matches, winning in the third slot. Sophomores Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) and Mitchell Minniear (Muncie, Ind.) improved to 4-2 on the season by taking the final doubles match, 8-6.

Senior Dakota Smith (Greenfield, Ind.) earned the lone singles victory for Hanover, taking the No. 4 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Smith is now 4-3 during singles play this season, with three wins coming in the fourth spot.

Sophomore Alec Bates (New Albany, Ind.) nearly recorded a second singles point for HC, splitting the opening two sets, 6-2 and 5-7 at No. 6. Bates however, would fall in the third set tiebreaker, 10-3.

The Panthers (1-6) will continue the southern swing with a pair of matches Monday, Feb. 26. Hanover opens the day against Adrian (Mich.) at noon and will follow it up with an evening contest with Concordia-Moorhead (Wis.).
