Panthers post 7-2 win in Florida trip finale

ORLANDO, Fla – The Florida Winter Break trip for the Hanover men's tennis team concluded in winning fashion, as the Panthers defeated Saint Mary's (Minn.) Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Training Center, 7-2.

The Panthers (2-3) took the bottom two spots to earn a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. Junior Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) and sophomore Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) won at No. 2, 8-6, while freshmen Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) and Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.) earned an 8-2 decision at No. 3.

Carrico, Asplund and Trombley went on to take straight set singles victories at Nos. 2, 3 and 5, respectively. At No. 2, Carrico conceded just two games, winning 6-1, 6-1. Asplund improved to 4-1 on the season after a 6-3, 6-4 decision. Helping Hanover to the team victory was Trombley, with his 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

Additionally, junior Jonathan Helmers (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Jed Fajt (Greencastle, Ind.) won at Nos. 3 and 6 singles. Helmers took his match by a count of 6-4, 6-2, while Fajt followed at 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

The Panthers are set to return home for their next action, as they face Centre (Ky.) at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 10.
