HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College men's tennis team resumes Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with three matches this week.
SETTING THE SCENE: The Panthers (3-6, 0-1 HCAC) begin the week with a home match against Transylvania at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 10. Hanover also host Defiance at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, before traveling to face Franklin at noon, Sunday, April 14.
LAST WEEK RECAP: Hanover is coming off a 1-1 week, including a 7-0 triumph over non-conference foe, Oakland City (Ind.). The Blue and Red now have two wins over the Mighty Oaks this season. The Panthers opened the week with their HCAC opening match, a 7-2 loss to Earlham.
SINGLES NOTES: Junior Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) won a pair of singles matches last week, improving to 5-3 on the season. Carrico has won three straight singles appearances and is 3-1 in the No. 2 slot. Joining Carrico with a team-high five wins is junior Jonathan Helmers (Cincinanti, Ohio) and freshman Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.).
DOUBLES NOTES: A trio of Panthers have four doubles victories this season, including Asplund, Carrico and sophomore Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Ind.). Carrico and Trombley are 2-2 when paired together, while Asplund and freshman Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) are also 2-2.
THE COMPETITION: Hanover's first opponent, Transylvania is 6-9 overall and 2-1 in HCAC play this season. Defiance enters at 0-4 in league play and 2-9 overall. Sunday's contest at Franklin pits HC against one of two unbeaten teams in league play, as the Grizzlies are 3-0 this spring. Franklin has a 6-6 overall mark.
UP NEXT: Hanover will be off until Saturday, April 20, when the team hosts an 11 a.m. match against the defending HCAC champions, Rose-Hulman.
