Men's tennis cruises in 9-0 win at MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Hanover men's tennis team stayed in form Tuesday afternoon, defeating Mt. St. Joseph on the road in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, 9-0.

The Panthers (8-6, 5-1 HCAC) have won six straight overall appearances and each of their last five HCAC outings. Hanover has won its last four matches all by a score of 9-0 and have shutout five opponents during the current winning streak. The Lions fall to 0-6 overall and in conference play this spring.

The Panthers lost a combined five games in the first two doubles slots and earned a win by forfeit in the final spot. Freshmen Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) won 8-1 at No. 2, improving their team-best active winning streak to five matches. The duo of sophomore Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and freshman Connor Garrison (Louisville, Ky.) were 8-4 victors at No. 1.

The Blue and Red also received two points in singles play via forfeit. Junior Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) highlighted singles competition, winning 6-1, 6-1 in the top spot. Carrico is now 6-0 in league matches and hoists an eight-match winning streak. Classmate Jonathan Helmers (Cincinnati, Ohio) won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1.

Trombley earned his second point of the match in singles play, taking the No. 4 slot by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Fellow sophomore Jed Fajt (Greencastle, Ind.), earned a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 3. Fajt extended his winning streak to six matches, as he is 5-1 in league competition.

Hanover, who has already secured a spot in its fourth straight HCAC Tournament, will close out the regular season with two matches at home Saturday, April 27. Wins over Manchester and Rose-Hulman would earn the Panthers a share of the regular season league championship. Competition is set for an 11 a.m. start.
