Men's Tennis Makes History at the ITA Central Regional

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Hanover College men's tennis team made history at the ITA Central Regional this past weekend hosted by Kalamazoo College.

Senior Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) and senior Jonathan Helmers (Cincinnati, Ohio) both picked up wins in singles action Friday evening, making history for the Panthers as they are the first in school history to win in the first round of singles action at the ITA Tournament. The duo of Carrico and sophomore Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) also made history in doubles action winning the school first ever round.

In Saturday action, Helmers opened with a tough loss to Augustana before battling back for a win in his second match, 6-3, 0-6, 10-7 over Wittenberg. He would bow out of the weekend falling to another Augustana competitor.

Carrico would also find some success on day two as he defeated a player from Millikin 6-0, 6-0 before falling to a tough singles player from Denison.

In doubles action, Carrico teamed up with Gallart dropping a competitive match with Augustana on Friday evening before winning the first round of the back draw 8-2 against Ohio Northern. They would later fall to a top doubles team from Denison University.

The team returns to action on Saturday, October 12 aa they compete in an exhibition match with Lawrence Tech.
