Men's track runs into the outdoor season this weekend

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's track and field team will head to Terre Haute, Ind. to open up its outdoor campaign at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Meet at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 17.

DISTANCE RUNNERS RETURN: Senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind.) and junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.) will be back on the track this weekend, both competing in the 5000m run. Rector was a top three finisher at last year's HCAC Outdoor Championships in the event and Hedrick joins the senior with a sub-15:30 personal record in the event.

THROWERS WITH BUSY SLATE: Hanover will have five men's throwers in action this weekend, including senior Jacob Sofronko (Ridgeville, Ind.). Sofronko will enter the shot put and hammer throw this weekend. The senior posted a top five all-time mark at HC last spring in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.02m. Sophomore Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.), along with freshmen Deacon Fountain (Dexter, Mich.) and Dioincio Sierra (Westfield, Ind.) are all scheduled to compete in four throwing events Saturday, joining Sofronko and freshman Elijah Williams (Greencastle, Ind.) in the shot put and hammer throw, while also competing in the discus and javelin throw.

TOP SPRINTERS TO RUN IN THE 400: Junior Darrell Payne (Indianapolis, Ind.), sophomore Samuel Pyle (Goshen, Ky.) and freshman Reece Hunter (Mooresville, Ind.) will all open outdoor competition in the one-lap race this weekend. Pyle and Payne have career outdoor bests of 49.40 and 50.34 seconds, respectively, while Hunter is coming off the third fastest 400m indoor time in school history at the HCAC Championships, 51.13. The Panthers will also enter a 4x400m relay squad this weekend.
