Rector selected to CoSIDA's Google Cloud Academic All-District team

Joe Rector

COSIDA RELEASE

HANOVER, Ind. – Senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind.) of the Hanover cross country and track & field teams has been announced as a Google Cloud Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rector is the first men's runner in school history to be awarded with an academic honor from CoSIDA. The senior has also received two academic all-American and two all-region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in his collegiate career.

A 10-time all-conference selection, Rector was named to the all-HCAC squad for the cross country and outdoor track & field seasons in 2018. He, along with teammate, junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.), were named academic all-Americans by the USTFCCCA for their performance during the cross country campaign this past fall.

The 2017-18 athletic year for Rector opened with the cross country season, which saw him place in the top 15 in all but one race, the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regionals, where his 35th place finish was still good enough for USTFCCCA all-region accolades. His other cross country performances were highlighted by a second place finish at the Hanover Invitational, fifth place finish at the HCAC Championships and a sixth place finish at the #JennaStrong Wilmington (Ohio) Invitational. His top eight-kilometer time of the fall, 26:11.1, came at Wilmington.

The indoor track season saw the senior post a fourth place finish at the HCAC Championships in the 5000m run, where he clocked in a 15:35.52. Following up a successful indoor stint, Rector capped his collegiate career with top-five season times for the HCAC in the 5000 and 10000m runs. He opened the outdoor campaign with a 5K mark of 15:12.02, which proved to be the third fastest in the HCAC this spring and among the top 20 regionally. A time of 33:09.51 in the following meet at the Hanover Invitational was his top 10K mark of the season. Rector closed the outdoor season with top five finishes in both events at the HCAC Championships.

Rector is the only male and one of just three total track and cross country athletes from the HCAC to receive the honor from CoSIDA Tuesday (May 29). With the first team accolade, the senior is now eligible for the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-American award, which will be announced in June.
