HCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP

HANOVER, Ind. – Track & field senior Joe Sheryak (Greenwood, Ind.) is set to make history this weekend, as he will become the first male athlete at Hanover College to compete in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

SETTING THE SCENE: Sheryak will compete in the two-day event in Boston, Mass., at the Reggie Lewis Center, located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Boston. The senior will be one of 20 athletes to enter the seven-event heptathlon, which will begin at 10 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9. More information on the host site can be found on their webpage at the link above.

MAKING HISTORY: Sheryak has had a knack for being a trailblazer at Hanover. As mentioned already, the senior will be the first male athlete to compete at the NCAA national championships and he was also a member of the men's soccer program in 2016, as the Panthers went 16-5 overall en route to their first NCAA National Tournament appearance. Sheryak was also key this winter in leading Hanover to its highest point total (152) and finish (2nd) at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

AWARDS SZN: The past few weeks have seen the senior receive several awards. Sheryak was recently named an all-region performer by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for having the top heptathlon total in the Great Lakes. The Greenwood, Ind. native was also a first team all-HCAC performer, a meet that saw him produce a conference-high 28 points, a first place showing in the long jump and five total top six finishes.
