HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's and women's track and field team are prepared to compete at the Rose-Hulman Friday Night Invitational, an event that the Panthers have claimed third or better dating back to the 2014 season.

NEW ERA: With Friday's meet, the Panthers will begin a new era under first year head coach Rachel Sharpe. Sharpe served as an assistant coach with the program for six years being named USTFCCCA Great Lakes Assistant Coach of the Year on two separate occasions. A 2013 Hanover College graduate competed as a member of the Panther track and field team where she set school records as part of both the indoor 4x200m relay and outdoor 4x400m relay.

THE COMPETITION: Rose-Hulman, DePauw, Manchester, Hanover, Washington University

THE MEN LAST YEAR AT FRIDAY NIGHT INVITE: In the 2019 campaign, the Blue and Red claimed third place behind the performance of sophomore Riley Cook (Corydon, Ind.) who claimed a first-place finish in the high jump. The success carried over into the 800m run that saw sophomore Cooper Hanson (Greenfield, Ind.) move into the schools top five list with a time of 2:01.07. Senior Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.) led Hanover in the weight throw claiming a top five finish.

THE WOMEN COMPETING AT ROSE-HULMAN: The women's track and field team found great success in 2019 as part of the Friday Night Invite that was headlined by junior Erin Browning (Greensburg, Ind.) winning the weight throw with a record-setting performance. Also finding success in the throws was sophomore Mariah Grider (North Vernon, Ind.) who claimed a fourth-place finish in both the shot put and weight throw. Sophomore Arig Tong (Columbus, Ind.) will look to carry her success from cross country into the track and field season after winning the mile race a year ago by nearly six seconds.

UP NEXT: The Blue and Red will continue their indoor season next weekend with a split squad. Part of the team heads to the Tom Hathaway Classic Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25 hosted in Indianapolis, Ind.  while the other half heads to Ohio for the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday.
