HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's track and field team will continue its indoor season as a split squad this weekend. The Panthers will be competing as part of the Tom Hathaway Classic and Wittenberg Invitational.
THE FIELD AT ROSE-HULMAN: The Blue and Red opened the 2020 season with the Friday Night Spikes event hosted by Rose-Hulman and leading the charge was a trio of Panthers in senior Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.), senior Ethan Monnin (Minster, Ohio) and freshman Chaz Johnson (Fountain City, Ind.). Perez claimed a second-place mark in the weight throw with a toss of 15.53 meters, while teammate Johnson took second in the long jump with a leap of 6.02 meters and Monnin in the pole vault with a height of 3.97 meters.
RUNNING AHEAD OF THE PACK: The 4x200-meter relay team of senior Samuel Pyle (Goshen, Ky.), freshman Torion'Ja Forrest (Peru, Ind.), senior Kornell Dash (Evansville, Ind.) and junior Reece Hunter (Morresville, Ind.) led the Panthers on the track with a third-place mark in a time of 1:36.18. Sophomore Bryce Gatewood (Noblesville, Ind.) registered a top-five finish in the 400-meter dash, while Dash also took fifth in the 60-meter run.
TOM HATHAWAY CLASSIC: The Distance Classic is hosted in Indianapolis, Ind. and will feature 26 teams from various divisions to be held on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25.
WITTENBERG: The Panthers will also see a split squad compete at the NCAC/OAC/HCAC Challenge hosted by Wittenberg University. Events begin at noon on Saturday, January 25 inside the Steemer Center.
UP NEXT: Hanover returns to the track on Saturday, February 1 with a trip to Ada, Ohio for the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University.
