ADA, ohio – Freshman Erickmycal Powell sets a school record in the long jump to lead the men's track and field team at the Joe Banks Invitational Saturday hosted by Ohio Northern University.
The freshman claimed the top spot in the event with a school record leap of 6.99 meters shattering the previous record of 6.73 meters set by Joe Sheryak.
The success in the field events continued as sophomore Riley Cook(Corydon, Ind.) finished tied for second overall in the high jump with a jump of 1.88 meters.
On the track, the 4x200-meter relay team of sophomore Bryce Gatewood (Noblesville, Ind.), freshman Aaron Rodgers (Noblesville, Ind.), freshman Torion'Ja Forrest (Peru, Ind.), and sophomore Justin Johnson (Camby, Ind.) took third overall with a time of 1:37.38.
Also claiming top five finishes in the meet were senior Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.) in the weight throw and senior Ethan Monnin (Minster, Ohio) in the pole vault. Perez placed third in the event with a toss of 14.91 meters, while Monnin took fourth in the vault with a height of 4.25 meters.
Junior Elijah Williams (Greencastle, Ind.) registered a top mark in the shot put with a sixth-place finish in the 39-thrower field with a toss of 12.49 meters.
In the 800-meter run, sophomore Cooper Hanson (Greenfield, Ind.) took eighth overall with a time of 2:01.46, while freshman Robert Hoegeman (Monroe, Ohio) moved into ninth all-time among the Hanover top ten list in the event with a time of 2:04.69.
Rounding out the meet for the Panthers were senior Paxton Caldwell (Connersville, Ind.) and Gatewood. Caldwell tallied a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.25, while Gatewood finished ninth in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line in 23.72.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, February 7 as they compete as part of the Small College Classic.
