Powell Garners HCAC Weekly Honor with School Record Leap

CARMEL, Ind. – Just one jump into his young career, freshman Erikmycal Powell (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned his first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor announced Tuesday afternoon.

The freshman won the long jump as part of the Joe Banks Invitational Saturday afternoon with a school record leap of 6.99 meters. He broke the previous record of 6.73 meters set by Joe Sheryak.

In the meet, his 6.99 meter mark was the first jump of his collegiate career and landed him in the top spot among the HCAC while also ranking him second among the Great Lakes Region.

The freshman also leaped into the top 25 in Division III, landing 23rd overall in the event. 

Hanover returns to action on Friday, February 7 as they compete as part of the Small College Classic.
