GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Hanover men's track and field team registered a second place finish in the 12 team field as part of the Tiger Small College Invitational hosted by DePauw University Friday evening.
Senior Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.) led the way for the Blue and Red taking first in the weight throw with a toss of 15.28 meters. Also claiming first place marks in the meet were sophomore Bryce Gatewood (Noblesville, Ind.), senior Ethan Monnin (Minster, Ohio) and freshman Erikmycal Powell (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Gatewood won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.45 seconds, while teammate Monnin claimed the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 4.00 meters and Powell the long jump with a leap of 6.77 meters.
The 4x200-meter relay of Gatewood, senior Paxton Caldwell (Connersville, Ind.), sophomore Justin Johnson (Camby, Ind.), and freshman Aaron Rodgers (Noblesville, Ind.) took first in the event with a time of 1:35.27, while the team of sophomore Riley Cook (Corydon, Ind.), Caldwell, Rodgers and sophomore Cooper Hanson (Greenfield, Ind.) placed first in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:35.00.
Gatewood also claimed a second place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.17, while sophomore Jalen Simmons (Indianapolis, Ind.) placed runner-up in the pole vault with a height of 4.00 meters.
In the high jump, Cook finished fourth with a leap of 1.83 meters, while Rodgers set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 11.19 meters. The freshman also claimed a top ten mark in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.29.
Freshman Chaz Johnson (Fountain City, Ind.) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters, while Powell also found success on the track taking seventh overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.47 seconds.
In the 200-meter run, freshman Torion'Ja Forrest (Peru, Ind.) placed sixth with a time of 23.92 followed by teammate Caldwell with a 10th place mark in a time of 24.36 seconds.
Freshman Nick Stroud (Leavenworth, Ind.) rounded out the meet for Hanover with a 10th place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.47 meters.
The Blue and Red return to action on Saturday, February 15 with the DePauw Indoor Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
