GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Hanover men's track and field team traveled to DePauw on Saturday afternoon for one final tune-up before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The Blue and Red finished fifth overall in the 17-team field with 56 points.
In the field events, senior Kyler Perez (Garrett, Ind.) captured the school record in the weight throw with a third place toss of 15.93 meters.
Freshman Erikmycal Powell (Indianapolis, Ind.) dominated the long jump claiming first place in the event with a leap of 6.30 meters. He also placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.76 meters.
In the pole vault, senior Ethan Monnin (Minster, Ohio) earned a second place finish clearing a height of 4.35 meters. Sophomore Jalen Simmons (Indianapolis, Ind.) garnered a fifth place mark in the event with a vault of 3.75 meters.
Sophomore Riley Cook (Corydon, Ind.) took fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.86 meters, while freshman Aaron Rodgers (Noblesville, Ind.) set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 11.44 meters.
Rounding out the field events for Hanover was freshman Nick Stroud (Leavenworth, Ind.) in the shot put taking eighth overall with a toss of 12.67 meters.
On the track, the 4x200-meter relay team of sophomore Bryce Gatewood (Noblesville, Ind.), senior Paxton Caldwell (Connersville, Ind.), sophomore Justin Johnson (Camby, Ind.), and Rodgers garnered a second place finish with a time of 1:35.14. Gatewood also claimed a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.97 seconds, while teammate Johnson set a personal best time in the 600-meter run.
Rodgers captured a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.87 seconds.
The Blue and Red return to action Saturday, February 22 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
