Hedrick, Rector lead Hanover men to victory in home invite

HANOVER, Ind. – For the second consecutive year, the Hanover men's cross country team took first place at its home invitational.

Under first year head coach Brady Wells, the Panthers posted the top four scoring times, including first and second place marks from junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.) and senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind.).

Hedrick and Rector have now logged top three individual finishes in each of the last two Hanover Invitational meets. Hedrick finished first this fall, posting a time of 20:05.2 in the 6-kilometer event. Rector followed with a time of 20:11.9.

Finishing fourth overall was sophomore Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind.), who finished the race in 20:41.4. Rounding out the top four scoring times in the two-team event was freshman Andy Vilardo (Bloomington, Ind.). Vilardo finished the 6K in just under 21 minutes.

Sophomore Hananiah Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the fifth Panther to cross the finish line, coming in at 22:07.0. Davis improved two spots from his freshman home race, finishing 10th overall.

Hanover finished with 20 points, defeating IU-East by 15 points in the team standings. Junior Cole Dudley, who placed sixth overall, led the way for the Red Wolves.

The Panthers also had four alumni runners and were led by Coach Wells son, Logan Wells ('14), who finished third overall with a time of 20:28.0.

Hanover will be back on the course Friday, Sept. 15, when they compete in West Lafayette, Ind., at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
