LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Hanover men's cross country team enjoyed a day of strong performances at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday afternoon.
Three Panthers earned top 25 overall finishes in the Silver Race, marking the first time in program history any male runner for HC posted a top 25 finish at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.) led the way, posting the eighth fastest time in school history for an eight-kilometer event. Hedrick won the "Other Division" section, while also placing second in the overall standings.
The sophomore was sitting in fifth place before a strong finish over the final mile leap-frogged him into the top two. Hedrick finished with a time of 25:39.49.
Also making a big move over the final mile of the race was sophomore Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind.), who finished 23rd in the overall standings, crossing the finish line at 26:35.22.
Senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind.) was the second HC runner to finish Saturday. Rector placed 15th overall and 10th in his section, recording a time of 26:23.15.
Hanover ended the day sixth in their section standings, totaling 218 points. The Panthers however, also logged the sixth best total time of all teams in the Silver Division.
The Greater Louisville Classic featured a total of 1,004 male runners and 126 teams, competing over three races. In the Silver Division alone, where the Panthers competed, there were 400 runners and 47 teams.
Hanover will return to action in two weeks, when the team travels to compete in the #JennaStrong Wilmington (Ohio) Fall Classic. The Harriers are set to start at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, on the campus of Wilmington College.
