NEW ORLEANS – The Hanover men's cross country team earned two all-region selections by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday afternoon.
Junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.) and senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind.) each posted top 35 finishes at the Ohio Wesleyan-hosted Great Lakes Regional this past weekend to earn the accolade from USTFCCCA.
Hedrick placed 27th in the field of 243 runners with an eight-kilometer time of 26:12.3. Rector followed at 26:27.6, finishing 35th overall. Hanover had the most men's all-region honors of any team in the HCAC, recording two of the conference's four winners.
Both Hedrick and Rector capped off successful seasons at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, as they not only earned awards during the regional race, but also at the HCAC Championships, the #JennaStrong Wilmington Fall Classic and the Greater Louisville Classic.
Hedrick was third at the conference meet for the second consecutive year, while Rector's top 10 finish earned him his third all-HCAC accolade of his career. Hedrick also won two HCAC Player of the Week awards this fall.
The duo was joined by sophomore Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind.) as Hanover's three top 25 finishers at the Greater Louisville Classic, which were the highest three finishes in program history at the nationally-known event.
Led by Hedrick and Rector, Hanover placed 14th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, registering its highest finish at the NCAA sanctioned event in several decades.
