HANOVER, Ind. – For the second consecutive year, Hanover men's cross country runner, Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.), has opened the season with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's first male runner of the week award.
Hedrick is picking up his fourth career HCAC player of the week award for cross country, after winning two in 2017 and one in 2016. The senior has also won four of the last nine conference athlete of the week awards for cross country.
In his deb ut race of 2018, Hedrick won the Hanover Invitational for the second time in as many years. On the nearly four-mile course, Hedrick's time of 20:39.9 was more than one minute faster than the next runner to finish. Running ahead of the field for much of the race, Hedrick posted an average mile time of 5:13.3.
The senior also assisted the Panthers to their third straight championship at the home invitational, as Hanover totaled 30 points. The Blue and Red logged an average race time of 22:14, with five runners placing inside the top 10 overall.
In his last seven races, Hedrick has placed inside the top 10 six times, including three championship runs.
Hanover will return to action Saturday, Sept. 15, when the squad travels to compete in the Otterbein (Ohio) Invitational.
