Shelbyville, Ind. – Senior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind.) and Junior Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind.) both placed in the top-35 at the NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional meet to earn all-region honors and lead the Hanover College men's cross country team to a 15th place finish.
Hedrick, who finished 18th overall in a time of 25:46.0, ran a strong second half after being dropped from the lead pack at half-way. His placing is the highest in school history at the Great Lakes Region and has a chance to qualify him for the NCAA DIII National Championships to be held next Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Veach too had a strong finish, picking off nearly a dozen runners in the final stretch to take home 25th place in a time of 25:55.6. This marks the second year in a row that the Panthers have boasted two all-region runners in the same meet.
While Hedrick and Veach led the charge for the red and blue, the trio of Andy Vilardo (Bloomington, Ind.), Cooper Hanson (Greenfield, Ind.), and Andrew Clegg (Indianapolis, Ind.) closed out the scoring on what is the second highest finish in school history at the event.
Vilardo and Hanson both turned in personal best times of 26:55.6 and 27:00.4 to finish 105th and 110th respectively, while Clegg finished things off with a time of 27:28.8 to place 145th.
The Knights of Calvin College won the team event with a combined score of 56 to Otterbein University's 95. Both teams will automatically advance to the national meet.
