HANOVER, Ind. – The virtual race series continued as the Panthers competed in their third race of the 2020 season, finishing second overall. The runner-up finish marks the second time this season Hanover has landed among the top three.
The weekend race consisted of a 1,600-meter run against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents.
Hanover claimed a runner-up finish with 70.5 points, while Rose-Hulman claimed the team title with 35 points. Franklin claimed third place overall with 71.5 points followed by Manchester with 81.5 points, Transylvania in fifth with 115 points, Bluffton in sixth with 145 points, and Mount St. Joseph in seventh with 220 points.
Pacing the field for the Blue and Red was senior Andy Vilardo (Bloomington, Ind. / Bloomington North) with a second-place finish in a time of 4:27.4. Junior Cooper Hanson (Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central) followed him across the finish line in a time of 4:34.8, taking sixth overall.
Freshman Ethan Weston (Louisville, Ky. / DeSales) ran a strong race for the Panthers finishing 16th overall in the 77-runner field with a time of 4:42.5.
Rounding out the top 25 for Hanover was sophomore Michael Taylor (Anderson, Ind. / Anderson Preparatory) in 21st place with a time of 4:45.3 followed by sophomore Robert Hoegeman (Monroe, Ohio / Monroe) in 25th place with a time of 4:46.6.
Freshman Colin Greiner (Chicago, Ill. / Jones College Prep) also ran a competitive race for the Blue and Red finishing 61st overall with a time of 5:22.2, while teammate freshman Youhana Lado (Louisville, Ky. / Fern Creek) rounded out the field for Hanover with a time of 5:37.5, good enough for 64th place.
