HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's softball team has announced its schedule for the 2018 season.
The Panthers begin their slate on their annual winter break trip, where they will play 10 games in six days. Last season during its trek, Hanover went 6-2. In their contest against Johnson & Wales (R.I.), now junior Sydney Griffin (Cambridge City, Ind.) threw a no-hitter to lead the Blue and Red to victory.
Following their excursion to Clermont, Fla. over the break, the Panthers will open their home schedule against IU-Southeast on March 6. In their previous matchup, they split a doubleheader as IUS won the first game 4-3 while the Blue and Red took the second by a score of 1-0.
The Panthers' conference schedule begins on April 4 when they travel to face Mount St. Joseph. Last time these two squads met, Hanover split the doubleheader. Overall, Hanover was 8-8 in conference play last year.
Also among their conference schedule is Transylvania, whom the Panthers split a doubleheader with last season, a 1-0 loss and a 5-4 win. The Pioneers went on to the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced past their regional and were one game shy of the College World Series, earning them the No. 14 ranking in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
This season the Blue and Red welcome coach Cori Eckerle, who will be at the helm for her first season with the Panthers. Under her guidance, Hanover will look to attain similar success to recent years, as they have made the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference final two of the past three seasons including a championship in 2016.
The HCAC tournament will be held May 4-5 this season, with the winning team earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
