HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College softball team closed out four home games in two days with a doubleheader split against Fontbonne (Mo.) Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (6-6) won 1-0 in the opener thanks to a walk-off base hit from freshman Kiley Shedron (Cloverdale, Ind.) in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Griffins (1-10) rallied to take the second game, 11-5.

Shedron was 4-for-9 on the day, including a 3-of-5 effort in Game One. The freshman drove in one run in each contest. Senior Carlie Roark (Hebron, Ky.), who scored the game-winning run, led the team with five hits in eight at-bats.

In the pitching circle, sophomore Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) continued her stellar stretch, going a combined 12.0 innings over the two games, allowing three hits and no runs. Beurman picked up the complete-game shutout in the opener, allowing three hits and striking out 14 batters over 10 innings. She pitched two innings in relief in the night cap, where she held Fontbonne hitless and picked up four strikeouts.

Beurman has not allowed a run in her last 20.1 innings pitched, all of which coming in the four-game homestand this weekend. During the stretch she has 27 of her 64 season strikeouts.

The Panthers racked up 13 hits in the first game at Kops-Bedel Stadium but need extra innings to pick up the win as they left 12 runners on base. To go along with Shedron, Roark, junior Jennah Ruddick (McCordsville, Ind.) and sophomore Rachel Cox (Indianapolis, Ind.) all tallied multiple hits in the contest.

The sophomore pitcher took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning, allowing just one base runner early on a Hanover fielding error. Hanover though, left one runner stranded in each of the first three innings and a bases-loaded groundball double play ended a scoring threat in the fourth.

The Blue and Red left runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings before finally breaking through in the 10th. Roark led off the final frame by getting hit by a pitch. Senior Tori Luster (Indianapolis, Ind.) then used a sac bunt to move Roark over to second. Shedron's heroics then came on a single up the middle.

Hanover jumped out to an early lead in the night cap, as Cox and sophomore Brittney Ralston (Hanover, Ind.) each drove in a run in the second with a single and double, respectively. Senior Allison Wiseman (New Albany, Ind.) worked around two hits and an error to keep the Griffins scoreless over the first two frames.

Fontbonne though, put together a seven-hit, seven-run third inning. Hanover added a run in the bottom of the frame on a base hit from Roark but still trailed 7-3. Roark was 3-for-4 in Game Two.

Both sides scored two runs in the fifth, with HC's offense coming on base hits from Shedron and Ruddick. The Griffins tacked on two additional runs in the sixth for the 11-5 margin.

UP NEXT: The Panthers continue non-conference action with a doubleheader at Spalding (Ky.), beginning at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 22.
